Amir R. Korangy, Publisher of The Real Deal
Amir R. Korangy is the founder and publisher of The Real Deal, the country’s premier real estate news outlet. He is a noted authority on the U.S. property market and frequently serves as an expert contributor for media outlets including The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, and BBC.
Korangy began his publishing career in Baja, Mexico, where he started a paper targeting Baja’s expatriate community. He later founded the Washington Free Press, which he sold to the Washington City Paper in 1997. He began The Real Deal in 2003 in New York, and quickly grew it into the city’s most-read industry publication. In 2009, Korangy was listed in The New York Observer’s Power 100 list for real estate. In 2012, he was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Young Jewish Professionals (YJP). In 2013, The Real Deal won a general excellence award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW), and in 2016, it won a record 14 awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE).
Korangy has been recognized repeatedly for his humanitarian efforts. In 2009, The Boy Scouts of America honored him with the Explorer’s Leadership Award for his work with the city’s underprivileged children. In November 2014, he was honored with a Child’s Champion Award by the Ronald McDonald House New York for his support of families of seriously ill children.
